Like during the time the pyramids were built? Or, during the time of the Renaissance? Or, the early formation of America? What if you had been alive during the time Jesus walked the earth? You heard about a man doing great miracles and speaking of the unimaginable: there is a God who actually cares about you. So much so, He knows of every strand of hair on your head ... Not only that you hear this same God uses Jesus to heal people - not just "petty" healing like causing a minor cut to stop bleeding more quickly than it would have on its own - Jesus was causing the blind to see, the deranged to be sane, those who were once lame were now walking - on their own ...
He raised a few people from. the. dead.
And if that wasn't enough - you just heard He was down the street IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD! You may actually get a chance to see Him...touch Him...speak with Him...
What would you do if you saw Him? Is there a situation in your life that you would want Him to fix? Would you ask Him to heal your body? Your mind? What if He lingered around long enough to have an actual conversation with you? Would you wait for Him to initiate the conversation or would you seize the moment and ask Him about the depths of God's heart?
If you had the chance to speak with Jesus, face-to-face, what would you say?
I think I would ask him questions about the direction of my life. I would want to know what I may be doing wrong and need to work on.
And how does He feel about the Church today? Is pleased or is He grieved? Are we being the ambassadors we were mandated to be? I would want to know what He is most concerned about in the world today. Is it the state of the Church? The world accepting their salvation? A combination of the two? That the state of the Church is hindering the world from accepting their salvation?
What would Jesus want to tell me? Would He tell me I have been faithful, or do I still need the faith of a mustard seed? Am I exhibiting His love, or am I hiding it under a lamp shade?
I don't know if you have ever wondered what it would be like to actually speak to Jesus face to face but I certInly have. Though we have prayer, and it is a dialogue, I do wonder what it would be like to actually see Jesus, ask Him questions and get answers right then and there.
Throughout the gospels, we have examples of people who actually spoke with Jesus - outside of the disciples and the religious leaders of the day. Sometimes, the people sought after Jesus for His healing ability or to hear from Him the answer to "life/living". Other times, it was Jesus who began the conversation. He sought out the lost in spirit and gave them life changing words ...
Because God saw fit for me to be born in this era, I have to study and look at what the Bible says about these conversations.
What was the catalyst for the conversation?
What were the circumstances surrounding the conversation?
Who started the conversation and why?
When did the conversation turn?
What was the outcome of the conversation?
What are we to learn from the conversation?
Over the next moth I would like to explore some of these conversations. Some well known and a few not so much ... It is my hope that as we look at how people seized the opportunity to speak with Jesus, the promised Messiah, we can look at our own lives and adjust how we speak with (pray) Him today.
Come with me into the era when people had daily face-to-face "Conversations With the Christ".
Just Around the Corner,
