"Little girl, you made a big mess."
"I not little girl, I Kiara."
"Kiara, you're being disobedient."
"No I not, I Kiara."
"Kiara, you're cute."
"No! I not!"
"Why not? What are you then?"
While we may laugh at her understanding of being called these things, I have come to appreciate her understanding. She doesn't want anyone to refer to her outside of just being Kiara. She doesn't expect or look for anyone to call her pretty, smart, sweet or lovable ...
She isn't searching for labels of approval. She is just Kiara and it is good enough for her and she expects it to be good enough for you.
How many of us struggle to gain approval from others?
We want to be seen as the innovative one at work.
The spiritual one at church.
The "together" one with family.
The extremely attractive one with our spouse or significant other ...
We are constantly looking for approval that we are "blank" enough. You can just fill in your blank.
When we are in Jesus Christ, we are more than enough. His death and resurrection did much more than open the door to salvation. It made us sufficient. It made us enough.
Through His shed blood we are made righteous - He exchanged our sins, our imperfections for His perfection. When God looks at us, He sees Jesus. Jesus is enough for everything, and because I have been justified, made righteous, through Jesus that means I. AM. ENOUGH.
Not because of my own merits, but through the grace of God.
As you reflect on what Jesus Christ did this coming weekend, don't forget to acknowledge that despite what others may think of you and in spite of what you have allowed yourself to believe - He chose to give His life, and God raised Him from death so that you would know that YOU. ARE. ENOUGH.
